QUILT CONSERVATION

Losses in the quilts below were stabilized with a sheer polyester overlay.
The matching colored fabrics were cut with a hot-knife following traced patterns and applied to the areas of loss with small running stitches.
The slideshows below outline the steps used to conserve quilts.

FLAG CONSERVATION

Losses in flag were stabilized utilizing net encapsulation prior to wet cleaning. Conservation treatment included the installation of cotton underlays and net overlays after wet cleaning in addition to stabilization using run stitching. Cotton underlay edges were finished with Klucel G solution and net overlay edges were finished with a hot knife.
This slideshow demonstrates some of the many steps necessary to complete this project.
